This small Delosperma lives well in fair numbers in small crevices on the upper parts of the south facing cliffs of the Magaliesberg. There are several species of these mesemb or vygie type flowering succulents growing in the area, including Delosperma purpureum, D. gautengense, D. davyi, D. leendertziae and D. macellum. This one may be D. purpureum.
The genus name indicates that the seeds are visible, meaning that once the valves atop the seed capsules open, the seeds are not covered by a membrane, as is the case in many other Aizoaceae genera.
