Senegalia welwitschii subsp. delagoensis, the Delagoa thorn

Senegalia welwitschii subsp. delagoensis, commonly called the Delagoa thorn, bears pairs of hooked prickles below the nodes where the leaves sprout. The prickles in picture appear similar to those found on rose bushes and probably equally effective, although usually higher up from the ground to address taller intruders.

The dry bark on the smallish stem in picture is pale and thin, not yet given to fissuring and flaking.

The about stalkless leaflets in picture are elliptic in shape, blue-green in colour with yellowish margins and (lower) midribs, the leaflets angled up and forward (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; Codd, 1951; iNaturalist).
