    Height is not the only characteristic that may make the large tree remarkable. Vachellia tortilis subsp. heteracantha here dominates its neck of the woods by relinquishing height in favour of exorbitant spreading… a more than sufficient mark of maturity, equivalent to status in tree world.

    Animals can move freely below, enjoying summer shade. The grassy annuals grow abundantly and are grazed as it happens without hindrance or impediment. The hiker can relax in the shade, as long as the ground is checked before sitting down for dropped thorns and beasties that bite.
