Huttonaea pulchra inflorescence

The Huttonaea pulchra inflorescence carries six to nine flowers of about 1,5 cm in diameter. Floral bracts, ovate to lanceolate in shape with pointed tips, are folded around the ovaries. These bracts may become the same length as the ovary, although not always. The flower stem is smooth or hairless, soft and fleshy.

Pulchra (Latin) means beautiful, making this the beautiful huttonaea, an appellation somewhat unfair to the other species of the genus. Flowering happens from midsummer to mid-autumn (Pooley, 1998; iSpot; www.africanorchids.dk).
