Haworthiopsis limifolia var. ubomboensis

Haworthiopsis limifolia var. ubomboensis is one of five recognised varieties of H. limifolia, the only one not growing in South Africa, but nearby in the Ubombo Mountains of Swaziland. The habitat is montane grassland where the plants may be hard to find in the grass.

The stemless dwarf succulent grows stiff, spreading rosettes made up of smooth, hard leaves. The other H. limifolia varieties have rough-surfaced, tubercled leaves. The plant readily forms clumps of rosettes. The narrow, lance-shaped leaves are channelled, their thick margins entire. Leaves taper to acutely pointed tips that curve down only slightly.

Leaf colour is pale green on youngest leaves and may remain so when not exposed to sunlight in the grass, otherwise leaves become a dull pink or greyish pink (Scott,1985; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
