The ovate leaves of Heliophila amplexicaulis are not quite opposite but close to it, as a pair of them clasps the stem in immediate succession at nodes between long internodes. The second leaf is sometimes absent along the branched stems.

The spreading leaf tapers to an acutely pointed tip, its margins entire and the surface grey-green. Leaves are up to 4 cm long and 1 cm wide (Le Roux, et al, 2005; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
