Heliophila juncea shrubs lacking flowers suggest that they might serve well as brooms for sweeping a bare-ground yard around the house.

Wispy or wand-like when the flowers are gone, there is little foliage to speak of at the end of the rainy season in September at Kagga Kamma. The average rainfall of this region is generally low, around 100 mm p.a. (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Manning, 2007; iSpot; Wikipedia).
