    Hibiscus pusillus leaf differences are in evidence in these stem-leaves. Alternate and short-stalked, one is three-lobed with ridged midrib in its lower part, while some smaller leaves are unlobed.

    All the leaf margins are toothed though, visible among the pine needles near the ground.

    The younger stem in picture is green, the older one brownish under a grey sheen (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2009; Pooley, 1998; Van Wyk and Malan, 1997; Gledhill, 1981; iNaturalist).
