This Hibiscus aethiopicus var. ovata flower colour is nearer white than cream. The maroon eye in the corolla centre is common in the variety, although far from consistently present.

The elliptic leaves are dark green, the marginal teeth conspicuously pointed, uneven in size and present on upper leaf parts.

The photo was taken in the Little Karoo near De Rust in renosterveld where some ysterbos (Dodonaea viscosa var. angustifolia) also grew (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist).
