Hibiscus aethiopicus var. aethiopicus flowers grow solitary from leaf axils.

The flowers are bright yellow to cream or nearly white, yellow or very pale pink. They are almost always without a central dark patch characteristic of several Hibiscus species, also sometimes seen in H. aethiopicus var. ovatus. The flowers are up to 5 cm in diameter.

There is a staminal tube of 1 cm in the flower centre from which the stamens point outwards. Narrow, fringed bracts form a ring outside the calyx at the back of the flower (Manning, 2009; Pooley, 1998; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
