Hibiscus engleri is an erect shrublet of the northern parts of South Africa and Swaziland. The stems are slender with a coppery colour. There are star-shaped bristles on the stems.

The leaves are three-lobed and oblong, irregularly toothed.

The flowers grow from leaf axils. They are yellow, pink or mauve with purplish centres. Blooming happens from midsummer to autumn (Germishuizen and Fabian, 1982).
