Harveya pumila flower

The five Harveya pumila corolla lobes spread haphazardly and well-rounded around the tip of its wide flower tube. The corolla margin is unevenly scalloped or toothed but only in the upper parts of its lobes, entire where they meet. The flower is zygomorphic, laterally symmetrical.

A two-tipped, yellow band emerges from the mouth along the floor of the corolla. For the rest the inside of the mouth is white, faintly vein-lined up the centres of its other lobes.

In highveld grassland this plant bears white-lobed flowers with conspicuous yellow colouring in and around the flower mouth, particularly found the Magaliesberg area. The plant is here commonly known as the geelinkblom (yellow ink flower) in Afrikaans (Van Wyk and Malan, 1997; Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist; JSTOR).
