The leafy carpet of dark green, white rimmed Helichrysum marginatum leaves spreads imperceptibly over bare ground or sheet rock high in the Drakensberg and Maluti Mountains, witnessed by very few observers. It’s a hard life and the old, prostrate stems grow woody.
The everlasting invades the space of neighbouring plants that do not always take the offence without countermeasure. Grassy leaf blades and white flowers, nothing like Helichrysum and more like Rhodohypoxis, hold their ground here against the leafy onslaught on their space. Arguments do continue in worlds without words as well (iNaturalist; https://keys.lucidcentral.org).
