The flowerheads of Helichrysum retortum grow solitary at stem tips nestled among the leaves or slightly above. Each head is surrounded by several rows of hairless, glossy involucral bracts that are are mostly white. Parts of the bracts, mostly towards their tips are sometimes pink, brown or maroon. Flowerhead diameter is about 4 cm. The centre of a head consists of a yellow disc of many, densely clustered bisexual, yellow florets, surrounded by few rows of female florets.
Bloomtime is from late winter to after midsummer.
