The leaves of Helichrysum petiolare resemble those of H. patulum, except for the distinct petiole of H. petiolare as shown in the photo. The leaves have flat blades, not crinkly ones as do H. patulum and H. panduriforme. H. petiolare leaves are broadly ovate with entire margins, broadly rounded at the base and rounded at the tip.
Some translucent veining can be seen against the light through the woolly leaf covering. Leaf dimensions are from 1 cm to 3,5 cm long and 1 cm to 3 cm wide.
A pale, fleshy stem, also white with hairs is visible (Manning, 2009; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
