Haworthia truncata var. truncata, all it shows when not flowering

The leaves of Haworthia truncata var. truncata are distichously arranged in a fan that looks like its blades have been cropped. They only show their irregularly shaped oblong tips above-ground. These unusual leaves are flat on top with tiny scattered tubercular protrusions on their shiny surfaces in the photo.

The dark green leaf tips are translucent as in all the window succulents that allow sunlight to reach internal leaf cells for photosynthesis. Sometimes having only a few leaves in the row as here, there may also be about a dozen of them on a mature plant.

The spring or summer flowers are white and two-lipped, growing in lax racemes, the unbranched inflorescences becoming about 23 cm tall (Scott, 1985; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
