    Seen from below, the opening of the Hermannia lavandulifolia flower that tests the flying skills of visiting pollinators is small. The spiralled petals have one margin inside and one out, flaring the broadly rounded lobe tips into precarious landing strips facing down. Whoever wants to eat what is on offer inside are at least assured that the delicacies have never seen the sun.

    Spidery floral bracts are visible around the flowers (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
