Hermannia desertorum, sometimes commonly called the desert dollsrose, in Afrikaans the suikerbos (sugar bush), a name shared with some proteas, is a much-branched shrublet reaching heights from 30 cm to 60 cm, depending on rainfall.
The species distribution is inland in the north of the Western Cape from Clanwilliam, the far northwest of the Eastern Cape, and the Northern Cape, in the Great Karoo from the Swartberg Mountains and Namaqualand, as well as in the south of Namibia.
The habitat is succulent Karoo and semi-arid karoid scrub on plains and rocky ridges. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century.
The plant is considered as moderately palatable to livestock (Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; JSTOR; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
