Hermannia desertorum, sometimes commonly called the desert dollsrose, in Afrikaans the suikerbos (sugar bush), a name shared with some proteas, is a much-branched shrublet reaching heights from 30 cm to 60 cm, depending on rainfall.

The species distribution is in the north of Western Cape from Clanwilliam to the east of the province in the Swartberg Mountains and further to the northwest of the Eastern Cape, also widespread in the Northern Cape, particularly Namaqualand and the Great Karoo, as well as in the south of Namibia.

The habitat is succulent Karoo and semi-arid karoid scrub on plains and rocky ridges. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century.

The plant is considered moderately palatable to livestock (Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; JSTOR; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
