The swollen, balloon-like calyx of the Hermannia hyssopifolia flower has a hairy surface, its colouring creamy lemon-green with the occasional maroon patch.
There is an anticlockwise overlapping pattern in the contrastingly hairless petals only seen around the tiny flower mouth. The pale yellow to greenish petals have smooth, rounded margins and at this close range show some surface roughness (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; iNaturalist; www.plantzafrica.com).
