The leaves of Hermannia althaeifolia grow alternate on hairy petioles of variable length. Stipules may be seen on young leaves. Leaves and all young growth are pale grey-green and velvety from short, soft hairs.

The leaf-shape is ovate to elliptic, tapering at both base and tip. The leaves fold in along their midribs, leaf surfaces slightly crinkly. Their margins are variably toothed, sometimes crisped. The leaf dimensions are 2,5 cm long, 1,5 cm wide (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Manning, 2009; iSpot).
