Hermannia salviifolia var. salviifolia

Hermannia salviifolia is a much-branched, hairy shrub that reaches 1,5 m to 2 m in height. There are three varieties of H. salviifolia. This one, photographed on Hoy Koppie in Hermanus is thought to be H. salviifolia var. salviifolia.

H. salviifolia occurs in the Western Cape and coastally into the Eastern Cape as far as Grahamstown.

The plant's habitat is stony granite or clay slopes. The habitat populations of all three varieties are deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Bean and Johns, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
