Hermannia salviifolia var. salviifolia flowers

The flowers of Hermannia salviifolia var. salviifolia grow in crowded clusters among the leaves at stem-tips. The flowers nod when their stalks are not too short.

The narrow, acutely pointed sepals, green and hairy, clutch the back end of the corolla, reaching just over halfway up its length. The outside surface of the corolla tube is also hairy.

The yellow to pale orange corolla consists of overlapping petals that spiral around each other, flaring and recurving at their rounded tips above the narrow flower mouth. All visible plant parts in the photo are velvety hairy, barring the inside of the corolla surfaces.

Bloomtime for this plant is all year round, peaking in early spring and late summer (Bean and Johns, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
