Habenaria dives at the pine forest

Man-made forests are mostly monoculture plantations. Indigenous plant species of the earlier, conquered nature are generally unwelcome and unsuccessful here. Orchids like Habenaria dives do cope, however, in the living conditions presented on the floors of some such forests.

Moths, mosquitoes and gnats perform pollination services to these (and other) white and green Habenaria flowers. Reward for their efforts is delivered in nectar, produced in the spurs below the flower lips (Pooley, 1998).
