The white and green flowers of Habenaria transvaalensis grow in a lax, cylindrical inflorescence, bearing from 15 to 25 of them.

There are from 5 to 12 leaves below the inflorescence, the lower ones sheathing the stem. The plant has elliptic to ovate leaves that grade into floral bracts. These bracts are ovate to lanceolate, flat and up to 3,8 cm long, positioned below the slender pedicel and ovary of each flower (www.africanorchids.dk; www.orchidspecies.com).
