Holothrix grandiflora prostrate leaves

Two annual leaves are mostly grown by Holothrix grandiflora, the smaller one sheathed upon the bigger one. The nearly round or obtusely pointed leaves are borne at ground level. On some plants the outer leaf parts are raised, angled funnel-like down to the centre.

The leaves are usually hairless, sometimes a little hairy only at the base.

A juvenile neighbour is keeping the bigger plant in picture company. Vein lines on the leaves differ in the plants of two sizes.

The leaves of this species are often withered by bloomtime (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Liltved and Johnson, 2012; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
