Produced closely together the flowers of Holothrix scopularia have a brush-like appearance created by the division of the lip into five to twelve slender lobes. These finger-like lobes are translucent and shiny, narrowly cylindrical and slightly curved or straight.

The common name of brushy holothrix originates from this resemblance. The photo was taken in January (www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
