Rhynchopsidium pumilum purple stems

The thin Rhynchopsidium pumilum stems may be grey to blackish purple lower down, green as the leaves near the tips. The narrow leaves are here grey-green and ascending or angled forward on the mostly horizontal stems.

All these colours are dull compared to the yellow of the spreading rays. Flowerheads are often presented in a ring around the centre of the plant, some facing up, others out.

The dull green involucre at the back of each flowerhead is angular and cylindrical with a square base on a thin, bare peduncle (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
