Lichtensteinia lacera, the tornleaf kalmoes

Seen up close, the dark green Lichtensteinia lacera leaf is covered in creamy net-veining, fed from and delivering into larger veins connected to a large midrib, like an irrigation system for crop farming. No part of any green patch is far from a cream vein.

In picture the spine-toothed leaf margins are scalloped, grouping a few angular teeth into arcs. The tiny teeth tips are brown, appearing like soft spines (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; Leistner, (Ed.) 2000; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
