Craterocapsa congesta

Craterocapsa congesta is a dense, prostrate, herb belonging to the Campanulaceae family. The plant appears mat-forming, a low-growing herb bearing rosettes of stiff, channelled leaves. The tap-rooted plant produces a profusion of attractive blue flowers. 

The species is distributed in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, as well as in some neighbouring countries. The habitat is subalpine grassland. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century.

There are five South African species in the genus. The generic name, Craterocapsa means cup-shaped capsule (Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
