From behind the Dianthus basuticus subsp. basuticus flowers show their long, cylindrical calyx tubes of furled sepals, ending in pointed tips. They allow the five white petal lobes to spread. The flowers grow on long naked pedicels that branch lower down, produced in few-flowered inflorescences. The petals end in markedly toothed to lacerated tips relating the plant to the carnation genus in looks. The petals may also be pink in different shades, some quite dark pink.

The plant keeps grassy company, confirmed in the appearance of its leaves (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2009; iNaturalist).
