The unopened buds of Valeriana capensis var. nana are flushed with pink in the photo. The flowers grow in dense, rounded clusters at the tips of long, sturdy stems.

The small flowers are white with five oblong petals that are rounded at the tips and form a tube at the base. White stamens spread far above the corolla on their long filaments, the anthers also whitish.

The photo was taken in November in the Mkhomazi Wilderness Area of KwaZulu-Natal (Riley, 1963; JSTOR; iSpot).
