Heliotropium amplexicaule leaves

The alternate leaves of Heliotropium amplexicaule grow on short stalks or are sessile, sometimes stem-clasping. The specific name, amplexicaule, means stem-clasping. The leaves are lanceolate to elliptic with rounded tips and tapering bases.

The midribs and ascending lateral veins are recessed on the upper leaf surfaces, only the cream-coloured bases of some midribs visible in the photo. Lateral veins curve in before the margins; some net-veining is also visible.

Leaf margins are entire and wavy in parts, only appearing to be also scalloped. Faint hairiness is visible, especially on the leaf margins (Pooley, 1998; Van Wyk and Malan, 1997).
