    The upper leaves of Sesamum alatum are simple and opposite. They are long and narrow with dark green blades channelled from a recessed midrib into a keeled shape. The margins are sometimes faintly toothed.

    An old dry fruit with open tips spreading widely is to be seen, as well as the hairy, pink outside surface of a flower. Black glands are present at the leaf axils (Pooley, 1998; Onderstall, 1996; Germishuizen and Fabian, 1982; iNaturalist).
