The Gymnodiscus capillaris inflorescence seen from the side shows its pale green branches and stalks of the grouped flowers. The bracts at the branchings are stem-clasping and narrowing abruptly before elongation into attenuating, curling tips.

The involucres of the flowerheads appear in three shades of green, the free bract parts darkest apart from their midribs (Le Roux, et al, 2005; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
