The upper parts of the outside surfaces of Hereroa aspera petals, as well as the insides of the tips may on some plants be pinkish red or orange red, during and shortly after the bud phase at least.
There are several whorls of these narrowly oblong, typical mesemb petal shapes working their way to full opening during the late afternoons of sunny days (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist).
