The green Smicrostigma viride plant in picture is much about pointy succulent leaves. They are decussate, the opposite pairs basally fused in a smooth sheath. The specific name, viride, is a Latin word meaning green, fresh or young, probably referring to this plant appearance, sometimes seen, conditions permitting.

The leaf-shape is triangular in cross-section, as well as in the three blade surfaces formed by deep keels and sharply distinct upper surface margins.

Smaller leaf-pairs readily appear from axils of older ones, some of them the beginnings of new branches (Frans Noltee Facebook notes 13 March 2019; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org).
