The flowers of Malephora lutea grow solitary on fleshy stalks from stem tips or leaf axils, just above the leaves. They are yellow as indicated by the Latin specific name lutea. The petals are nearly linear (strap-shaped) to narrowly oblanceolate (inversely lance-shaped).

There is a multitude of yellow stamens in each flower. Flower diameter is about 2,5 cm. They open in the middle of the day, better on warm, sunny days. Flowering happens from late winter to early summer, but may occur after rain in any season (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Smith et al, 1998; Wikipedia).
