Stoeberia frutescens leaves

The leaves of Stoeberia frutescens grow in equal, opposite pairs, decussate upon the stems. The internodes vary in length in accordance with growing conditions.

The leaf-shape is thickly oblong or linear, not quite triangular in cross-section as the thick succulence causes bulging towards the cylindrical, as if overweight. The keel is less distinct towards the base of the leaf, the leaf tip also slightly pointed.

The older leaves are dull to dark blue-green and smooth until moisture loss causes wrinkling, the young leaf-pairs fresh to bright green. A leaf may become from 3 cm to 5.5 cm long (Le Roux, et al, 2005; Smith, et al, 1998; Herre, 1971; iNaturalist).
