    The five sepals of Fenestraria rhopalophylla subsp. aurantiaca flowers have rounded to pointed, knobbly tips and membranous margins.

    The brownish buds in picture contrast against the glaucous leaves in colour as well as shape. The buds are initially closed like clutching paws until the pale petal outside surfaces burst free in a new colour, much paler than the insides that will face up when the flowers are fully open (Grenier, 2019; Frandsen, 2017; Williamson, 2010; Smith, et al, 1998).
