Hallianthus planus flower in profile

The Hallianthus planus flower has leaf-like bracts on its stalk and five round-tipped, fleshy and unequal sepals around the cone-shaped flower base. The spreading petals angle up slightly, the staminodes and pale yellow anthers above them in the centre.

The reddish fruit capsule to follow will have ten locules. It is similar to the capsules of Leipoldtia plants. There is a raised inner area on top formed by the covering membranes of the locules, rendering the the capsule turret-shaped (Williamson, 2010; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist).
