Angraecum pusillum

Angraecum pusillum is a dwarf orchid, an epiphytic herb that reaches 10 cm in height. The plant grows five to seven grass-like leaves in a dense stem tip cluster. They become 10 cm long, 6 mm wide. The stems that become 2,5 cm tall are usually densely covered in old leaf sheaths.

The species distribution is widespread from the southern Cape as far west as Swellendam and the Eastern Cape through KwaZulu-Natal to Limpopo.

The habitat is branches and trunks of trees in deep shade of evergreen forest and scrub, as low as 1 m above the ground. The visible roots may spread and become conspicuous upon the tree trunks. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Liltved and Johnson, 2012; Pooley, 1998; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
