Stenoglottis fimbriata leaves

The hairless leaves of Stenoglottis fimbriata grow in a basal rosette. The eight to eleven leaves are oblong to elliptic in shape, becoming 15 cm long and 2 cm wide. They are irregularly marked in dark purple spots. Leaf margins are wavy and very variable. The specific name probably refers to the leaf margins, fimbriata (Latin) meaning fringed. There are a few small, spaced cauline leaves up the scape as well, tapering to acutely pointed tips.

Only the dark fruits, forming from the developing ovaries, remain here of the flowers, recently departed. Shrivelled perianth segment remains persist at the fruit tips. The fruits are angled, all pointing in roughly the same direction, a feature of Stenoglottis inflorescences. The stems are purple (Pooley, 1998; Germishuizen and Fabian, 1982).
