Lacomucinaea lineata flowers

This Little Karoo Lacomucinaea lineata, previously Thesium lineatum shrub was found flowering in mid-August south of Oudtshoorn. The pointed petal lobes are white, the central corolla cup pale green below the five yellow anthers around the stigma, all just reaching above the flower mouth.

The flowers grow on short pedicels. The closed buds and half-opened flowers are dull green and lemon yellow on their outsides.

Faint longitudinal channelling may be observed upon the older stems in picture. Young stems are brighter green. The short-lived, narrow leaves ascend markedly along the stems and beyond their tips. Once the leaves fall the stem-tips dry out, becoming spine-like (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
