This Manochlamys albicans bush was seen flowering and fruiting in the western Little Karoo near Barrydale among Karoo scrub and thorn trees. Its spread is bigger than its height.
The green, stem-tip inflorescences are dense clusters towering like beady candles over the grey foliage.
The fruits are eagerly browsed, the leaves less so, mostly during summer when other options in the veld become rare (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; http://pza.sanbi.org).
