Leonotis ocymifolia flowers from above

A whorl of Leonotis ocymifolia flowers seen from above shows a ring of tubular orange flowers appearing hairy headed with pale necks and tapering mouth parts.

There are many empty calyces visible in the photo above the flowers from where earlier whorls of corollas have already disappeared. The tubular green calyx, much shorter than the velvety orange corolla, has longitudinal ridges fringed with bristly hairs.

Small, pointed lobes are present at the calyx tips, the upper one always the longest. This feature is different in L. leonurus flowers.
