The simple, opposite leaves of Ancylobotrys capensis are erect on short, reddish petioles. There are no stipules.
The leaf-shape is oblong to broadly elliptic, the margins entire and the tips variably pointed. The leathery blades are dark green on top, paler below and slightly convex above. Parallel veins ascend slightly, usually visibly from the pale midribs that are prominent on the lower surfaces. The veins loop in before they reach the margins. Only the young leaves are covered in soft hairs, the mature ones glabrous.
Leaf dimensions are from 2 cm to 4 cm long and from 1,2 cm to 2,5 cm wide (Schmidt, et al, 2002; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Tree Society of South Africa, 1974; iNaturalist).
