    The slender upper stem parts of Chironia linoides subsp. linoides in picture present a flower as well as shiny buds, ovate and regular in shape. Segment lines are visible on the orange outer surfaces of the still cohering petals where they seam together. The sepal tips below form a five-pointed star behind the corolla part of each bud, concealed behind the petals in the open flower.

    What the secretive bud petals are up to is revealed in the open flower once they spread. Some flowers of these plants have petal-coloured styles, other styles are white, maybe representing phases. It doesn’t look as if the usual five yellow anthers are all present in the flower in picture. 

    The narrow, needle-like leaves ascend, their tips pointed (Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
