    The pointed orange sepals of the drooping Liparia splendens inflorescence remain fairly straight at this stage. Above them, the pointed leaves recurve their tips notably, not that committed to pointing down, but then the branches are erect in their lower parts with tips inclining down. 

    Whether the smaller inflorescences sitting higher in the photo, not as committed to nodding or dangling as their wide open counterpart, are older or younger is uncertain. Some petals have already turned black in one of them. 

    This plant sometimes goes by the Afrikaans name of geelkoppie (little yellow head). The flowers must be fully open to live up to that name. Blonde is not a conventional option here (Manning, 2007; Mustart, et al, 1997; iNaturalist).
