Anaxeton asperum subsp. asperum is here a small, few-branched shrublet undertaking an ambitious flowering venture on a hill north of Hermanus. Delicate, erect stems emerge from the shiny green leaves with velvety white lower surfaces. They present compact, shallowly dome-shaped inflorescences at their tips, quite large and well above the leafiness, as if expecting pollinators to fly high.
The upper stems are thinly felted, only few widely spaced narrow leaves upon them (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
