The flowers of Orphium frutescens, the sea rose, grow in small axillary clusters or solitary. The glossy pink petals form a five-pointed star. The anthers are yellow and twisted, opening at the tips. The colour and shape of new buds are noteworthy.

    O. frutescens is the only species in its genus. It is an evergreen perennial and typically grows a little taller than half a meter. In the USA the descriptive term bubblegum pink is used by some for this flower colour. The plant is growing in popularity with gardeners.
